CLUB HISTORY

In May 1953, two people began talking about forming a camera club in the Camberwell area. A local add was placed drawing 10 people to the inaugural meeting of the Camberwell Camera Club on the 23rd of November, 1953.

This grew to become a strong active club meeting on a regular basis, with a varied syllabus and excellent speakers. A monthly outing to photographically (and socially) interesting places was set up and is still a regular feature of the club today.

To mark our 21st birthday in 1974, the club mounted the exhibition: Camberwell, Old and New, which was donated to the Camberwell City Library. This was the beginning of a long association with Camberwell Civic authorities and the local community.

Through the association with VAPS and the Photographic Society, many of our members have gained national and even international recognition with numerous awards and honours.

There are five memorial end-of-year trophies, two memorial aggregate trophies and one special end-of-year trophy honouring the lives and work of members. The club has a concise monthly newsletter called "Shutterbugs" detailing items of interest, up-to-date news reports and notices of special activities and meetings.
